Due to the fact that it's been a spell (July 17, 2006) since the last 'annual' State of our Union communique (below), and my innate sense of quasi-guilt at receiving Christmas letters and not sending one, I am now attempting to rectify aforesaid deficiencies, while simultaneously seizing the opportunity to shamelessly flaunt the fact that we have eight, count 'em eight, grandchildren.
Speaking of descendents, here are the families of our children, Anne, Laurie and John:
This past year I entered the blogisphere creating As It Happens... about our family and the more challenging On The Journey, documenting my 'travels' on the journey of faith.
My friend Ann and I did a 53 minute interview conducted by my cousin Bev DeVries at KCWN FM in Pella, Iowa, in October during their Sharathon. We talked about beginning to have a clue about God, and how He brought us together. (FYI: there is a song halfway through followed by a five-second dead spot.)

You may remember my husband Steve. Yes, I didn’t forget about him as he brings home the bacon and often cooks it. Plus, as I am wont to remind him, he's my favorite husband in the whole wide world. He still has a job with Pittsburgh Paints as a regional sales manager and likes it yet one year later. This is good.
In other news, you may recall I was to have lung tumor surgery and did on Friday, the 13th of October, a year ago, and in spite of the complication of staying an extra week in the hospital due to a staph infection, the outcome was great.
Fred the Fibroma, as I had taken to calling this uninvited chest-guest,

was evicted very simply (if you’d call being filleted ten inches ‘simply’), not taking a whole lung, nor two lobes, nor even one, but just a smidgeon.
Fred HAD to go since he would’ve eventually taken over the whole neighborhood, becoming his own subdivision. My surgeon had only ever taken out one other in his career (Fred being a rare breed) and that one weighed as much as a newborn. More than a year later now, my lung and peripheral body parts once again feel apart of me, as in I don’t particularly notice their presence. This is good.
On the Parkinson’s front, the drug Azilect, that I had wanted have access to via the drug study which fortuitously revealed my lung tumor in the screening process, was approved by the FDA and became available in pharmacies shortly after the July Christmas letter of 2006, and has eased many PD symptoms. Since then I've used several other meds in addition with varying degrees of success.
Our house number was changed by the county last year. It used to be 2670. Our current address is:
2694 140th St.
Van Meter, IA 50261
Steve's cell- 515-710-6746
Home- 515-996-9306
Here are some highlights of the last year and scenery from our Resort on the Hill, as we like to call it. Stop in for a visit and see for yourself.
